Psalm 17:8 — “Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.”
When you live in the Presence of God, you discover more than fellowship, you discover safety. His Presence does not merely surround you; it shields you. To dwell with Him is to be covered by Him, protected in ways you may never fully see or understand.
Think of a mother bird stretching her wings over fragile chicks. The storm may rage, the predator may lurk, but the chicks are safe because of her covering. This is the very image the psalmist paints when he prays to be hidden in the shadow of God’s wings. God’s wings are not fragile. They are mighty, secure, and eternal. His covering does not weaken under pressure; it holds. His shelter is not temporary; it is steadfast. His shadow is not a place of darkness, but of peace, rest, and divine protection.
Life’s storms often make you question God’s nearness. The winds howl, the waters rise, and fear grips your heart. Yet it is in those very storms that His shelter becomes most evident. He doesn’t promise to remove every storm, but He promises to shield you through them. This hiding place is not about escape; it is about rest. It is about trusting that no matter how fierce the trial, His Presence with you is even greater. His protection is stronger. His love is deeper. And His shelter is personal.
To be the apple of His eye means you are cherished and constantly within His gaze. God sees you, not only what you do, but who you are, what you carry, and even what you fear. You are never overlooked, never forgotten, and never left uncovered. Psalm 91:4 assures you, “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.” God’s shelter is both tender and fierce, tender like feathers, fierce like a shield. His Presence embraces while also defending.
Dwelling in His shelter requires you to surrender. Just as the chicks must stay close to their mother’s wings, you must resist the urge to run into independence. Safety is not found in striving, but in staying. Refuge is not found in running, but in resting. Sometimes, you confuse exposure with abandonment. But the truth is, even when you feel exposed, you are still covered. The storms that hit you are always filtered through the wings of your Father. If they reach you, it is only because He knows they will refine, not destroy.
And under His wings, courage rises; for shelter is not meant to paralyze you, but to position you. Once you know you are covered, you can step boldly into your calling. Once you trust His covering, you can live free from fear of what’s ahead. The enemy would love for you to believe that you are uncovered and unprotected, but that is a lie. The covering of God does not flicker in and out, it is constant, steadfast, and eternal. You are shielded day and night. So today, take a deep breath. Imagine yourself running under His wings, resting in His shelter, and rising in His strength. The safest place in the world is not away from the storm but under His wings, for that is where your protection lives.
Let’s Pray:
Father, I thank You that You are my shelter, my covering, and my refuge. You have kept me as the apple of Your eye, and You hide me in the shadow of Your wings. Lord, when storms rage around me, remind me that I am safe in You. Help me to run into Your covering and not away from it. Teach me to rest in trust, not in my own strength or control. Father, forgive me for the times I tried to fight in my own power. Forgive me for the moments I believed the lie that I was unprotected or forgotten. Remind me daily that I am covered by Your feathers and surrounded by Your love. Father, I declare that no weapon formed against me shall prosper, because Your presence shields me. I declare that I am never outside of Your gaze, never away from Your covering, and never apart from Your love. Lord, let Your shelter not only guard me but also empower me. Let me rise in boldness, knowing that my life is protected by the King of Glory. Give me courage to walk into my calling, knowing no storm can destroy me. Father, when fear whispers that I am vulnerable, let Your Word flood my ear gates and remind me that I am shielded. When doubt tries to creep in, let Your presence overwhelm me with peace. Thank You for being both tender and strong, Lord. Thank You that Your wings comfort me like feathers but defend me like a shield. I rest in both Your embrace and Your Might. Father, cover my mind, my body, my spirit, my family, and my future under Your wings. Protect me from what I cannot see. Keep me from what I do not know. Guard me from the schemes of the enemy. May Your shelter not make me timid, but bold. Let me live with holy confidence, knowing I am covered by the God of heaven. May my life testify that safety is not found in my surroundings but in my Savior. Lord, I rest under Your shadow and rise with Your strength. I dwell under Your wings and walk in Your courage. Thank You for covering me, protecting me, and empowering me to face every storm with unshakable faith. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Nugget: “Covered by His wings, you can rest in peace and rise in power.”
Blessings…
Love, Dr. Jean
