Good Morning Sunshine! Are You Ready To Learn How To Live Free, For Real This Time?

John 8:32 (KJV) ~ “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

In John chapter 8, Jesus was speaking to people who believed they understood freedom because of their heritage and religious background. They were descendants of Abraham and assumed that their lineage automatically qualified them as free people. Yet Jesus revealed that there was a deeper kind of bondage that could not be solved through ancestry, tradition, or human effort. He explained that anyone who commits sin becomes a servant to it and that true freedom comes only through Him. Jesus was not speaking primarily about physical captivity. He was speaking about the condition of the heart, mind, and soul. He was teaching that freedom is not simply the absence of chains. Freedom is the presence of truth. The truth of God’s Word has the power to expose deception, break strongholds, renew the mind, and transform lives. Jesus wanted them to understand that freedom is not merely an experience; it becomes a lifestyle built upon truth.

The journey of marronnage does not end when the chain is recognized or when you leave what is familiar. Those are important steps, but they are not the final destination. After the chain is identified and after you choose to leave captivity behind, another process begins. God starts teaching you how to live free. Many people know what it means to be delivered from something, but fewer understand what it means to consistently walk in freedom. Deliverance may happen in a moment, but transformation often unfolds over time. God is not only interested in bringing you out of bondage. He is interested in teaching you how to thrive beyond it. The same God who opens the prison door also teaches you how to live outside the prison walls.

One of the greatest misconceptions about freedom is believing that once God removes the chain, the struggle automatically disappears. Yet many of the battles you face after deliverance occur within your mind. The children of Israel experienced this reality. God delivered them from Egypt through miraculous signs and wonders. He broke Pharaoh’s authority, parted the Red Sea, and led them into a new season. Yet although they physically left Egypt, Egypt continued to influence their thinking. Every obstacle tempted them to doubt God’s faithfulness. Every challenge caused them to question His promises. Their location changed quickly, but their mindset required transformation. This is why Romans 12:2 instructs you to be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Freedom grows when your thinking aligns with God’s truth.

You may discover that some thought patterns continue long after the circumstances that created them have disappeared. A person who experienced rejection may continue expecting rejection even when surrounded by healthy relationships. Someone who endured failure may struggle to believe success is possible even after God opens new opportunities. A person who survived seasons of disappointment may find it difficult to trust God’s promises fully. These patterns do not necessarily mean you lack faith. They often reveal areas where God is still teaching you how to live free. The goal is not perfection. The goal is transformation. The Lord understands that healing often happens layer by layer. His grace remains present throughout the process.

Freedom requires more than removing lies. It requires replacing them with truth. This is why Jesus emphasized knowing the truth rather than simply hearing it. Truth that remains in your head may inform you, but truth that settles into your heart transforms you. The enemy understands the power of deception. He knows that if he can influence your thinking, he can influence your behavior. He knows that if he can convince you to believe a lie, he can limit your growth. Yet every lie loses its authority when confronted by God’s Word. When fear says you are alone, Hebrews 13:5 reminds you that God will never leave nor forsake you. When insecurity tells you that you are not enough, First Peter 2:9 reminds you that you are chosen. When failure whispers that you should quit, Philippians 1:6 reminds you that God will complete the work He began in you.

Learning how to live free often requires intentional participation on your part. Freedom is a gift, but walking in freedom involves responsibility. Second Corinthians 10:5 teaches believers to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Notice that Scripture does not tell you to accept every thought. It instructs you to evaluate them. Some thoughts deserve your attention, while others require your rejection. Every day you are presented with opportunities to agree with fear or agree with faith. You can agree with your past or agree with God’s promises. You can agree with insecurity or agree with your identity in Christ. Spiritual maturity develops when you learn to recognize which voice deserves your agreement.

One of the reasons people struggle to maintain freedom is because old patterns often attempt to revisit them. Fear may knock on the door again. Anxiety may attempt to reclaim territory. Discouragement may try to convince you that nothing has changed. Yet an old visitor does not have to become a permanent resident. Just because a thought returns does not mean it deserves access. Just because a temptation appears does not mean it deserves agreement. Freedom grows stronger every time you choose God’s truth over an old lie. Each decision strengthens your spiritual muscles. Each act of obedience reinforces your new identity. Each moment of trust deepens your confidence in God.

The process of learning freedom is very similar to teaching a child how to walk. A child may stumble many times before becoming steady on their feet. Yet loving parents do not abandon the child because of a stumble. They encourage, guide, and celebrate progress. Your Heavenly Father responds the same way toward you. He understands the growth process. He is not discouraged by your need to learn. He is not frustrated by your development. Psalm 37:23-24 says that though a righteous person falls, they will not be utterly cast down because the Lord upholds them with His hand. Your occasional stumble does not cancel God’s commitment to your growth. He remains faithful through every stage of the journey.

The Holy Spirit plays a vital role in teaching you how to live free. Jesus described Him as the Comforter, Teacher, and Guide. The Holy Spirit continually reminds you of truth when old lies attempt to return. He brings scripture to your remembrance. He provides wisdom during difficult decisions. He offers peace when fear tries to take control. He strengthens you when you feel weak and encourages you when you feel discouraged. Freedom was never meant to be achieved through self-effort alone. You were designed to walk in partnership with God. The Holy Spirit helps you apply truth to everyday life and teaches you how to remain anchored during changing circumstances.

As you continue this journey of marronnage, you may begin noticing areas where your responses are changing. Situations that once triggered fear may now produce faith. Circumstances that once caused panic may now produce peace. Conversations that once wounded you may now reveal growth. This does not happen because you suddenly became stronger on your own. It happens because truth has been taking root within you. God’s Word is accomplishing its work. His promises are reshaping your perspective. His presence is renewing your mind. Freedom often becomes visible through small changes that eventually produce significant transformation.

Today, God may be inviting you to examine the thoughts that influence your daily life. What beliefs are shaping your decisions? What voices are influencing your identity? What perspectives are determining your responses? Freedom is not sustained by feelings. It is sustained by truth. The more truth you embrace, the stronger your freedom becomes. The more God’s Word fills your heart, the less room remains for deception. Marronnage is not merely escaping bondage. It is learning how to think, live, and walk as a free person. God has not only brought you out. He is teaching you how to live differently now that you are free.

Let’s Pray:

Father, I thank You for being the God of truth. Thank You that Your Word brings light into every dark place and clarity into every confusing season. Thank You that You do not simply deliver me from bondage but also teach me how to walk in lasting freedom. Thank You for Your patience throughout every stage of my growth and transformation. Thank You for remaining faithful even when I am still learning. Today I open my heart to receive the truth You desire to establish within me. Lord, renew my mind according to Your Word. Help me identify every thought pattern that does not align with Your truth. Reveal every lie that has quietly influenced my decisions, my relationships, and my perspective. Show me where fear has spoken louder than faith. Show me where insecurity has challenged my identity. Give me discernment to recognize what is from You and what is not. Father, forgive me for the times I have agreed with thoughts that You never spoke over my life. Forgive me for allowing fear, doubt, anxiety, and discouragement to influence my choices. Help me reject every false belief and embrace the promises found in Your Word. Teach me how to stand firmly upon truth even when my emotions attempt to pull me in another direction. Lord Jesus, thank You that Your truth has the power to set me free. Thank You that I do not have to remain trapped by old ways of thinking. Thank You that Your Word is alive, powerful, and able to transform every area of my life. Help me hunger for scripture and desire Your presence more each day. Let Your truth become deeply rooted within my heart. Holy Spirit, guide me through the process of transformation. Remind me of God’s promises when fear attempts to return. Bring scripture to my remembrance when doubt tries to influence my thinking. Strengthen me when I feel weak. Encourage me when I feel discouraged. Help me remain sensitive to Your voice and obedient to Your leading. Father, help me recognize progress even when it feels small. Remind me that transformation often happens gradually. Give me patience with myself and confidence in Your process. Help me trust that You are completing the work You began within me. Let every step forward strengthen my faith and deepen my dependence upon You. Today, Father, I choose truth over deception, faith over fear, peace over anxiety, and confidence over insecurity. I surrender my thoughts, perspectives, and assumptions into Your hands. Renew my mind, strengthen my spirit, and teach me how to live as the free person You created me to be. Thank You for Your grace, Your truth, and Your faithfulness. In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.

Nugget ~ Freedom is not only about what God brings you out of. It is also about what He teaches you to believe after you are out. Every truth you embrace strengthens your ability to walk in lasting freedom!

Blessings…

Love, Dr. Jean…
