Good Morning Sunshine! Just So You Know, You Cannot Be Erased!

Isaiah 43:1 (NKJV) ~ “But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: ‘Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine.'”

Romans 8:38–39 (NKJV) ~ “For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

There is a lie that the enemy has whispered since the beginning of time. It sounds different depending upon the season you are in, but it always carries the same message: “You don’t belong anymore.” Sometimes he whispers it after you fail. Sometimes he whispers it after you have been rejected by people. Sometimes he speaks it during grief, disappointment, divorce, financial hardship, ministry struggles, family conflict, or seasons of waiting. He wants you to believe that your mistakes have somehow disqualified you from God’s love, or that your pain has somehow erased God’s purpose for your life. Yet today, the Lord speaks with unmistakable authority and says, “Fear not…I have called you by your name; you are Mine.” Notice that God does not begin with your performance. He begins with your identity. Before He addresses your fear, He reminds you who you are. Before He speaks about your future, He settles your belonging. Before He tells you what to do, He reminds you whose you are.

The words found in Isaiah 43 were spoken to a people who had repeatedly failed God. Israel had wandered, rebelled, worshiped idols, and broken covenant again and again. If anyone deserved to believe they had been abandoned, it would have been them. Yet instead of saying, “You no longer belong to Me,” God says something astonishing: “I have redeemed you.” Redemption means to buy back, to reclaim, to restore ownership over something that had been lost. God was reminding Israel that although they had wandered away, they never stopped belonging to Him. Their failures had not canceled His covenant. Their rebellion had not erased His compassion. Their mistakes had not rewritten His promises. God’s love was always greater than their wandering.

Perhaps today you need to hear that same truth. Maybe you are carrying regret over decisions you wish you could undo. Perhaps there are conversations you wish you could replay, relationships you wish had ended differently, opportunities you believe you missed, or seasons where fear kept you from obeying God completely. The enemy has a way of replaying yesterday until you lose sight of today. He reminds you of every failure while conveniently ignoring every evidence of God’s grace. But the Father does not introduce you by your worst chapter. He calls you by your name. Your mistakes may explain part of your story, but they do not define your identity. Heaven has never called you by your failure; heaven calls you by your redemption.

As we continue this journey through Isaiah 49:16, you are beginning to understand the incredible depth of being engraved upon God’s hands. On the first day you discovered that God has not forgotten you. On the second day you learned that His covenant secures you. Yesterday you stood beneath the Cross and saw that the nail-scarred hands of Christ forever testify of His redeeming love. Today, the Holy Spirit adds another beautiful truth: what God engraves cannot be erased. The world may attempt to redefine you. People may misunderstand you. Circumstances may shake your confidence. Even your own thoughts may accuse you. But no voice carries greater authority than the voice of the One who engraved your name upon His hands.

Think again about the devotional “The Imprinted One”, that little turtle naturally bore what appeared to be the name of God upon its shell. It did not wake up each morning trying to earn that imprint. It did not work to create it. It simply carried what its Creator had designed. In the same way, you do not spend your Christian life trying to earn God’s identity. You live from the identity He has already given you. His Word is continually being written upon your heart through the work of the Holy Spirit, and your name remains permanently engraved upon His hands through His everlasting covenant. One is shaping your transformation; the other secures your position. You are becoming more like Christ because you already belong to Christ.

One of the enemy’s greatest weapons is accusation. The book of Revelation calls Satan “the accuser of the brethren.” Notice that he accuses; he never redeems. He reminds you of your sin but never points you toward the Savior. He magnifies your weakness while minimizing God’s grace. He keeps replaying what Jesus has already forgiven. The Holy Spirit convicts so that you can be restored, but the enemy condemns so that you will remain imprisoned. There is an enormous difference between conviction and condemnation. Conviction says, “Come back to the Father.” Condemnation says, “The Father doesn’t want you anymore.” Conviction leads to freedom. Condemnation produces shame. One restores relationship; the other attempts to destroy it. Today you must choose which voice you will believe.

Romans 8 answers the accusation once and for all. The Apostle Paul builds one of the greatest declarations of security in the entire Bible. After asking, “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?” he proceeds to list virtually everything imaginable, tribulation, distress, persecution, famine, nakedness, peril, sword, death, life, angels, demons, present circumstances, future uncertainties, height, depth, and every created thing. Then he reaches one breathtaking conclusion: nothing shall be able to separate you from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Nothing means nothing. Not your past. Not your failures. Not your disappointments. Not your fears. Not your unanswered questions. Not even the attacks of the enemy. If nothing can separate you from His love, then nothing can erase what He engraved.

There is something remarkable about engraving. Once an engraving is completed, removing it requires damaging the very object upon which it has been carved. Think about that spiritually. If your name is engraved upon God’s hands, who has the authority or power to remove it? No one. No force in heaven. No power in hell. No opinion of people. No failure in your past. No attack from the enemy. The only way your name could ever be erased would be if someone could erase God Himself and that will never happen. His covenant is eternal because He is eternal. His love is everlasting because He is everlasting. His faithfulness is unchanging because He never changes.

Perhaps today you are allowing someone else’s opinion to carry too much weight. Maybe someone spoke words over you that left deep wounds. They called you a failure, unworthy, incapable, forgotten, or unwanted. Perhaps those words have echoed in your mind for years. But hear this carefully; people can label you, but only God has the authority to name you. People may describe your history, but God declares your destiny. People often speak from limited knowledge, wounded emotions, or temporary circumstances. God speaks from eternity. His Word always outranks human opinion. Therefore, stop allowing temporary voices to rewrite what the eternal God has already engraved.

Isaiah 43 begins with another beautiful reminder: “I created you…I formed you…I redeemed you…I called you by your name.” Notice the progression. He created you intentionally. He formed you personally. He redeemed you sacrificially. He called you individually. Every stage reveals divine intimacy. You are not part of a random crowd to God. He knows your name. He knows your personality. He knows your fears, your dreams, your tears, your strengths, your weaknesses, your gifts, and your calling. He knows the chapters you wish you could erase and the chapters you have not yet lived. Yet knowing everything about you, He still declares, “You are Mine.” There is no greater security than belonging to the God who knows everything about you and still chooses to love you completely.

As believers, you must continually return to the Cross because it is there that your identity is forever settled. The nail-scarred hands of Jesus silence every accusation that tries to rise against you. Those wounds forever declare that your debt has already been paid. Every time the enemy reminds you of your past, point him to the Cross. Every time shame tries to settle upon your heart, point your own soul back to Calvary. Every time fear whispers that you have somehow fallen beyond God’s reach, remember the words of Jesus from the Cross: “It is finished.” Redemption has already spoken the final word.

Today, perhaps you feel as though life has attempted to erase parts of you. Maybe suffering has changed you. Maybe loss has reshaped you. Maybe grief has left empty spaces you never expected. But while life may leave scars, it cannot erase the engraving. While circumstances may change your story, they cannot change your identity. While people may leave, God’s covenant remains. You are still engraved. You are still chosen. You are still redeemed. You are still called by name. You are still held securely within the hands of your faithful Father.

So walk into today with confidence, not because life is easy, but because your identity is secure. You do not have to spend your life proving what God has already declared. You do not have to earn what Christ has already purchased. You do not have to fear losing the love that was freely given through grace. Lift your head. Strengthen your heart. Silence the voice of accusation. The hands that engraved you have never released you, and the God who called you by name has never changed His mind about you.

Let’s Pray

Father, today I thank You for the unshakable security of belonging to You. Thank You that my identity is not built upon the opinions of people, the successes I have achieved, or the failures I have experienced. My identity rests entirely upon Your covenant love. Before anyone else knew my name, You called me by it. Before I understood grace, You had already extended it. Before I ever reached for You, You had already engraved me upon the palms of Your hands. Today I stand in quiet awe of a love that pursued me before I even knew I needed to be found. Father, thank You that Your Word declares, “Fear not…you are Mine.” Those words settle every insecurity that has tried to rise within me. When fear tells me I am alone, remind me that I belong to You. When rejection tells me I am unwanted, remind me that I belong to You. When failure tells me I am  disqualified, remind me that I belong to You. When discouragement tells me nothing will ever change, remind me that I belong to You. Let this simple but profound truth become the foundation beneath every area of my life. I am Yours, not because I earned it, but because You redeemed me through Jesus Christ. Lord, forgive me for every time I allowed accusation to speak louder than Your promises. Forgive me for believing the lies that my mistakes somehow canceled Your love or that my weaknesses somehow erased my calling. Today I renounce every lie of the enemy that has attempted to define my identity apart from Your Word. I refuse to wear labels that You never gave me. I reject shame, condemnation, fear, insecurity, and hopelessness. I receive instead the identity You have spoken over me. I am redeemed. I am forgiven. I am loved. I am chosen. I am called. I am engraved upon Your hands. Holy Spirit, continue writing God’s Word deeply upon my heart. Remove every thought pattern that does not agree with heaven. Heal every wound left by harsh words spoken over my life. Tear down every stronghold built by fear or rejection. Replace lies with truth, anxiety with peace, insecurity with confidence, bitterness with forgiveness, and discouragement with hope. Let my heart become fertile soil where Your Word grows abundantly. Continue shaping my character until my life reflects the beauty, humility, compassion, and holiness of Jesus Christ. Father, thank You that what You engrave cannot be erased. Thank You that no failure has the authority to remove my name from Your hands. No disappointment can rewrite Your covenant. No attack from the enemy can overturn what You have established. No opinion from people can cancel what You have declared. Your Word stands forever, and Your promises remain true. When I am tempted to question my worth, remind me that my value was settled at Calvary. When I struggle to believe in myself, help me remember that You have always believed in the purpose You placed within me. Lord Jesus, thank You for Your nail-scarred hands. Those scars continually remind me that Your love has already been proven. Every wound You bore speaks peace over my fears. Every drop of blood declares forgiveness over my failures. Every scar proclaims redemption over my past. Thank You that the Cross did not simply change my eternal destination, it forever changed my identity. Because of You, I no longer live as someone trying to earn God’s acceptance. I live as someone who has already been accepted, loved, forgiven, and embraced by the Father. Father, I surrender every voice that competes with Yours. Silence the voices of comparison. Silence the voices of criticism. Silence the voices of fear and self-doubt. Silence the voices that continually replay my past. Teach me to listen more carefully to the voice of my Shepherd than to the noise of the world. Let Your Word  become louder than my worries, stronger than my fears, and greater than every accusation that rises against me. Help me recognize that the loudest voice is not always the truest voice, Your voice alone speaks eternal truth. Today I choose to walk confidently in the identity You have given me. I will no longer apologize for being Your child. I will no longer question whether I belong. I will no longer allow shame to steal the joy of my salvation. Instead, I will walk boldly, humbly, and gratefully as one who has been redeemed, engraved, and forever held by Your unfailing love. Thank You for never changing Your mind about me. Thank You for never removing Your hand from my life. Thank You for calling me by name and reminding me that I am forever Yours. In Jesus Christ the Mighty Name, Amen.

Nugget: People may remember your mistakes, but God remembers His covenant. What He engraved, no person, no pain, and no power can erase.

Blessings…

Love, Dr. Jean…
