2 Corinthians 3:18 (KJV) ~ “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.”
Paul closes 2 Corinthians 3 by showing what happens after the veil is removed and liberty is received: transformation. Under the new covenant, believers can behold the glory of the Lord with an unveiled face, and through the work of the Holy Spirit they are progressively changed into the image of Christ. The phrase “from glory to glory” points to an ongoing work of transformation. God does not merely free you from something; through His Spirit, He continually changes you to become more like Christ.
You have reached the final day of this journey through 2 Corinthians 3, but the work of the Holy Spirit in you is far from finished. This series began with one uncomfortable question: Are you in liberty or are you in bondage, and are you asking the Holy Spirit to have His way while refusing to move out of His way? Over these days, the Holy Spirit has not simply been talking to you about what needs to change around you. He has been inviting you to examine what needs to change within you.
You have been learning that liberty is not merely a moment when you feel God’s presence. Liberty is a life that becomes increasingly surrendered to His presence. You learned to move out of the way because your sufficiency is of God. You allowed the Holy Spirit to examine what had been written upon your heart because you are an epistle of Christ. You allowed the veil to come off so that old wounds, fear, pride, offense, disappointment, and familiarity would no longer determine how you see. You stood at the open door of liberty and made the decision not merely to celebrate freedom but to walk in it. Now Paul brings you to the destination toward which the entire chapter has been moving, transformation.
Second Corinthians 3 does not end with verse 17, and that matters. You may love declaring, “Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty,” but Paul does not stop at liberty. He moves immediately into verse 18 and says that you are being “changed into the same image from glory to glory.” Liberty is not the finish line; liberty creates room for transformation. God did not break chains merely so you could talk about what you escaped. He freed you so you could become someone who looks increasingly like Jesus. He did not remove the veil merely so you could see what was wrong. He removed it so you could behold Him clearly enough to be changed by what you see.
That is why your attention matters. Paul says you are “beholding… the glory of the Lord.” What you continually behold has the ability to influence what you become. If you continually behold your pain, eventually your pain can become the center of your identity. If you continually behold people’s opinions, you can begin shaping your life around their approval. If you continually behold your failures, you may begin believing you are incapable of becoming anything beyond what happened before. But when your attention turns toward Christ, transformation begins.
Hebrews 12:2 tells you to be “looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith.” Your liberty cannot be maintained by continually looking backward at the prison. Eventually, you have to turn your eyes toward the One who brought you out. You cannot spend the rest of your life staring at what God delivered you from. There comes a time when you have to look toward where He is taking you. This is why Philippians 3:13–14 says that you are to forget those things which are behind and reach forward toward those things which are before, pressing toward the mark. Forgetting does not mean you lose your memory. It means yesterday no longer controls your movement. You can remember where you came from without returning to it. Your testimony can include Egypt without Egypt becoming your address.
There are things you survived that will always be part of your story, but they do not have to remain the definition of your identity. You can say, “Yes, that happened to me,” without saying, “That is who I am.” That is transformation. Romans 12:2 says, “Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind.” God can change your location while you continue thinking like the place you left. He can open a new door while you carry an old mindset through it. He can give you a new relationship while you continue responding from an old wound. He can give you a new assignment while you continue questioning whether you are enough because somebody in a previous season made you feel inadequate.
This is why the Holy Spirit does not only want to change your circumstances; He wants to renew your mind. Your thinking has to catch up with your liberty. Your expectations, your language, your decisions, your relationships, and your habits have to catch up with your liberty. You cannot keep thinking like a prisoner while declaring that you are free. Jesus said in John 8:36, “If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.” If Christ says you are free, you have to stop allowing old chains to introduce themselves every morning as though they still have authority over you.
You may remember the fear, but fear does not own you. You may remember the rejection, but rejection does not define you. You may remember the betrayal, but betrayal does not control your ability to love again. You may remember the mistake, but the mistake does not cancel God’s purpose. You may remember who you used to be, but 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, “If any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” Notice that word again: behold. Look again. See again. Perceive again. The veil has come off, so you cannot keep seeing yourself the old way.
God is saying, “Behold, I am doing something new in you.” The question is whether you will allow yourself to become unfamiliar with the version of you that bondage created. Sometimes you become attached to an old version of yourself simply because you know that person well. You know how that person reacts, protects themselves, handles disappointment, survives rejection, and builds walls. But the Holy Spirit is saying, “That version of you cannot lead this next season.” This is what transformation requires. There are things that served you in survival that cannot accompany you into wholeness. You may have learned to shut everyone out to survive, but now the Holy Spirit is teaching you healthy connection. You may have learned to control everything because life once felt unstable, but now He is teaching you trust. You may have learned to expect disappointment so you would never be surprised, but now He is teaching you hope. You may have learned to remain silent because your voice was ignored, but now He may be teaching you when to speak. You may have learned to explain yourself constantly because you wanted desperately to be understood, but now He may be teaching you that obedience does not always require explanation. That is what “from glory to glory” can look like in your everyday life.
Transformation is progressive. You are becoming. This should give you grace with yourself because transformation is not always instantaneous. There are moments when God delivers immediately, but there are also areas where the Holy Spirit develops you progressively. Philippians 1:6 reminds you to be confident that “he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ.” God is not finished with you. You do not have to become discouraged because you are still growing. You do not have to condemn yourself because the Holy Spirit reveals another area that needs transformation. If another layer appears, it does not mean the previous work failed. It may mean God trusts you enough to take you deeper.
You may deal with one layer of fear and then He shows you another. You may surrender one area of control and then He reveals another. You may forgive one offense and then He shows you another wound underneath it. You may break one pattern and then He reveals the mindset that created the pattern. That is not failure; that is from glory to glory. Proverbs 4:18 says, “But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shineth more and more unto the perfect day.” Your walk with God should keep becoming brighter. Your discernment should deepen, your surrender should deepen, your obedience should deepen, your capacity to forgive should deepen, and your ability to recognize the Holy Spirit should deepen.
This is why you cannot become comfortable with yesterday’s glory. Yesterday’s revelation was wonderful, but there is more. Yesterday’s healing was necessary, but there is more. Yesterday’s obedience mattered, but there is more. Yesterday’s surrender brought you here, but another surrender may be required for where you are going. You have to remain yielded. Galatians 5:25 says, “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Walking implies movement. You cannot walk while refusing to move. You cannot follow while insisting on leading. You cannot say, “Holy Spirit, have Your way,” and then plant your feet every time His way requires change. Sometimes His way will require you to forgive, apologize, establish a boundary, remove a boundary you built out of fear, speak, become quiet, stay, leave, wait, or move before you feel completely ready. The question is whether He is truly Lord.
Remember what came immediately before liberty in 2 Corinthians 3:17: “Now the Lord is that Spirit.” Lordship comes before Paul’s declaration of liberty. If He is Lord, He has permission to lead. You cannot say, “Have Your way,” while secretly reserving the right to veto every instruction you do not like. True surrender says, “Lord, even when Your way is different from mine, I trust Yours.” That brings the entire journey together. When you recognize that your sufficiency is of God, you can move out of the way. When you move out of the way, the Holy Spirit can address what has been written upon your heart. When you give Him access to your heart, He can remove the veil that has distorted your vision. When the veil comes off, you can recognize the liberty Christ has already provided. When you begin walking in liberty, the Holy Spirit can continue transforming you from glory to glory. This has not been five disconnected lessons. It has been one movement of the Spirit through surrender, heart transformation, revelation, liberty, and glory.
The common thread through all of it is the Holy Spirit. You cannot manufacture this transformation yourself. Remember the beginning of the chapter. 2 Corinthians 3:5 says, “our sufficiency is of God.” Then verse 6 says, “the spirit giveth life.” Verse 16 says the veil is removed when you turn to the Lord. Verse 17 declares liberty where the Spirit of the Lord is. Verse 18 says transformation happens “by the Spirit of the Lord.” God never expected you to transform yourself. The Holy Spirit is the One doing the work. Your responsibility is to remain yielded. That means your prayer cannot merely be, “Holy Spirit, make me feel better.” Your prayer becomes, “Holy Spirit, make me more like Jesus.” Sometimes becoming more like Jesus will feel wonderful, and other times it will require dying to something. Jesus said in Luke 9:23, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” There are things in you that will have to decrease so Christ can become more visible through you. John 3:30 says, “He must increase, but I must decrease.” Your pride, fear, need for control, dependence upon people’s approval, need to always be right, attachment to yesterday, and resistance to change must decrease. Not because God wants to erase who you are, but because He wants to reveal who you were created to become.
This is why Galatians 2:20 says, “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me.” Transformation means Christ becomes increasingly visible through you. People should eventually be able to look at your life and recognize that something has changed. Your response, language, boundaries, thinking, priorities, appetite, reactions, willingness to forgive, and willingness to obey should begin to reflect the work of the Holy Spirit. Not because you became perfect, but because you stayed surrendered. Remember what Paul said earlier in this chapter: you are an epistle of Christ. Your transformed life becomes the letter somebody else reads. Someone needs to see that fear does not have to win, rejection does not have to define you, betrayal does not have to make you bitter, failure does not cancel purpose, and your past does not have the authority to imprison your future. Someone needs to see what happens when a person truly says, “Holy Spirit, have Your way,” and then actually moves out of His way.
So as you close this series, do not simply celebrate what you learned. Live it. When control rises again, remember that your sufficiency is of God. When an old lie tries to speak again, remember that the Spirit of the living God is writing upon your heart. When your vision becomes clouded, remember to turn toward the Lord and let the veil come off. When an old chain tries to reconnect, remember that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. When you look at yourself and realize you are not who you used to be but not yet everything God is making you, remember that you are being changed from glory to glory.
Do not stop in the middle of becoming. Do not return because transformation feels unfamiliar. Do not rebuild what God tore down, pick back up what you surrendered, rewrite what the Holy Spirit erased, put the veil back over what God revealed, or walk back into a prison after discovering the door is open. Galatians 5:1 tells you to “Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free.” Stand in it, walk in it, grow in it, live in it, and keep becoming. Your final declaration is no longer simply, “Holy Spirit, have Your way.” Now you understand what those words require. They require surrender, trust, obedience, movement, and a willingness to give Him permission to change the very things you may have become comfortable carrying. So, say it with understanding: “Holy Spirit, have Your way. I will move when You say move. I will release what You tell me to release. I will receive what You tell me to receive. I will surrender what You put Your finger on. I will not fight the transformation I have been praying for.”
The goal was never simply to get you out of bondage. The goal is for Christ to become increasingly visible in you. You are moving from bondage to liberty, from liberty to transformation, and from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord.
Tagline: You did not move out of the way just to stand still. You moved so the Holy Spirit could write upon your heart, remove the veil, lead you into liberty, and transform you from glory to glory. Do not fight the transformation you prayed for. Keep yielding, keep walking, and keep becoming.

Father, in the Name of Jesus, I come before You at the close of this journey with gratitude, humility, and surrender. Thank You for speaking to me through Your Word. Thank You for showing me that liberty is not simply something I experience in Your presence; it is something You desire me to live every day. I acknowledge that this journey has not only been about what You want to remove from around me. It has been about what You are transforming within me. Father, I remember where this journey began. You reminded me that my sufficiency is of You. Forgive me for every time I carried something You never assigned me to carry, and forgive me for trying to control outcomes, force doors, change people, manipulate timing, or figure everything out before I trusted You. Today, I surrender again. I move out of the way. I release the pressure of believing everything depends upon me. I will do what You have assigned to my hands, and I will trust You with what only You can do. Holy Spirit, continue writing upon my heart. I give You the pen again. Erase every word that rejection, disappointment, betrayal, abandonment, failure, fear, shame, or people’s opinions attempted to write about me. Let Your truth become the loudest message within me. Where rejection wrote unwanted, write loved. Where failure wrote finished, write purpose. Where fear wrote impossible, write faith. Where condemnation wrote guilty, write forgiven. Where my past wrote bound, write liberty. Where disappointment wrote never, write trust Me. Let Your Word become so deeply written upon my heart that my life becomes an epistle of Christ that others can read. Father, I give You the veil again. Take it off completely. Remove every veil that affects how I see You, myself, other people, my circumstances, or my future. Do not allow me to look at a new season through an old wound. Do not allow yesterday’s betrayal to interpret today’s relationships or yesterday’s failure to determine tomorrow’s expectations. According to Ephesians 1:18, enlighten the eyes of my understanding. Let me see what You see. Give me discernment to recognize what is fear and what is wisdom, what is avoidance and what is patience, what is suspicion and what is discernment, what is my preference and what is Your instruction. Holy Spirit, where You reveal something in me, give me courage to face it. I will not cover the veil back over what You expose. I will not become defensive when You correct me. I understand that revelation is not condemnation. If You show me the chain, it is because You want me free. If You reveal the wound, it is because You want me healed. If You expose the pattern, it is because You do not want me repeating it. Father, thank You for liberty. Your Word declares in 2 Corinthians 3:17 that where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. I receive that liberty today. I receive freedom from fear, condemnation, people’s approval, bitterness, unforgiveness, shame, unhealthy control, and every mindset that has kept me connected to something You have called me out of. According to Galatians 5:1, help me stand fast in the liberty wherewith Christ has made me free. I refuse to become entangled again with the yoke of bondage. I will not go back because forward feels unfamiliar. I will not return to Egypt because the wilderness requires faith. I will not reopen doors You closed simply because I became lonely, impatient, afraid, or uncomfortable. Jesus, You declared that if the Son makes me free, I am free indeed. Teach me how to think free, speak free, worship free, love free, forgive free, serve free, and obey free. Let liberty become visible in the way I live. Now, Holy Spirit, transform me. Your Word says in 2 Corinthians 3:18 that I am being changed into the image of the Lord from glory to glory by Your Spirit. I surrender myself to that process. I do not want merely to be delivered; I want to be transformed. I do not want merely to leave bondage; I want bondage removed from my thinking, my responses, my habits, and my expectations. Renew my mind according to Romans 12:2. Change the way I think about myself, the way I respond to difficulty, the way I handle disappointment, the way I love, the way I forgive, the way I speak, the way I wait, and the way I obey. Change whatever needs to change so that Jesus becomes increasingly visible through my life. Father, I give You permission to remove every version of me that cannot accompany me where You are taking me. If an old survival mechanism is no longer necessary, help me release it. God if an old defense is preventing healthy connections in me, heal it. If control is keeping me from trusting You, break its hold. If fear is keeping me from moving, give me courage. I declare Philippians 1:6 over my life. You began this good work in me, and You will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ. Therefore, I will not become discouraged when You reveal another layer, and I will not condemn myself because I am still growing. I understand that transformation is a process and that You are taking me from glory to glory. When another layer appears, I will surrender again. When another fear appears, I will trust again. When another wound surfaces, I will let You heal again. When another veil appears, I will turn toward You again. When another chain tries to attach itself, I will stand in liberty again. I will keep becoming. Holy Spirit, I do not want to invite You merely into the room; I surrender the room to You. Rearrange whatever You desire. Move what needs to move, remove what needs to leave, correct what needs correcting, heal what needs healing, restore what needs restoring, close what needs closing, and open what You have ordained to open. I will not fight the transformation I have been praying for. When You say move, I will move. When You say wait, I will wait. When You say forgive, I will forgive. When You say release, I will release. When You say speak, I will speak. When You say be still, I will become still. When You say go, I will go. When You say stay, give me grace to remain. According to Galatians 5:25, if I live in the Spirit, let me also walk in the Spirit. I do not want occasional encounters with You while living according to my own direction. I want my everyday life governed by Your presence. Father, when I look back at this journey, let me remember what You have taught me. I moved out of the way. I gave You the pen. I gave You the veil. I chose liberty, and now I surrender to transformation. Do not allow me to pick back up what I laid down, rewrite what You erased, put the veil back over what You revealed, rebuild the prison after discovering the door was open, or become comfortable with a version of myself You are calling me to outgrow. Jesus, increase in me. According to John 3:30, may You increase while I decrease. Let my pride decrease, let fear decrease, let control decrease, let my need for approval decrease, let bitterness decrease, let my attachment to the past decrease, and let resistance decrease. Let Your love, peace, wisdom, compassion, patience, holiness, Word, and presence increase in me. Let Christ become visible through me. Father, today, I declare that I am not returning to bondage. I am not standing at the door of liberty afraid to walk through. I am not allowing the past to write the ending of a story that You are still writing. I am free, I am being transformed, and I am going from glory to glory. Holy Spirit, have Your way. I am moving out of Your way. Keep writing upon my heart, keep removing every veil, keep leading me in liberty, keep renewing my mind, keep transforming my life, and keep making me more like Jesus. I will keep yielding, I will keep trusting, I will keep obeying, I will keep walking, and by Your Spirit, I will keep becoming. In the Mighty, Matchless, Liberating, and Transforming Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
As you close this journey through liberty, you have moved out of the way, allowed the Holy Spirit to write upon your heart, let the veil come off, chosen freedom, and surrendered to transformation from glory to glory. But now you must ask, What keeps you grounded once you are free? What keeps you steady when feelings change, circumstances shift, and seasons turn? The answer is the Word. Before there were pages to turn, chapters to read, or verses to quote, there was the Word. John 1:1 declares, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” The Word did not begin when it was written on a page. The Word was already present in the beginning. The Word was. The Word is. And the Word will always be.
So, as you move into this next series, you are going deeper than simply reading your Bible. You are going back to the beginning to discover the eternal Word who existed before the pages, speaks through the pages, and will still be standing when everything else has passed away. Jesus said in Matthew 24:35, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.” You have learned to say, “Holy Spirit, have Your way.” Now prepare your heart to say, “Lord, ground me in Your Word.” Because before it was in pages, there was the Word. The Word was. The Word is. And the Word will always be.
