Acts 3:19 (NIV) ~ “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”
After Peter and John healed the lame man at the temple gate, a crowd gathered in amazement. Peter used that moment to point people back to Jesus. He called them to repentance and reminded them that repentance was not simply about acknowledging sin. It was about experiencing refreshing. Peter revealed a powerful Kingdom principle: when you turn fully toward God, He not only forgives, but He refreshes, restores, and renews.
This is the beautiful picture of the rinse cycle. After the washing machine agitates the garments and loosens the dirt, soap, and stains, fresh water begins to flow through the machine. The purpose of the rinse cycle is to remove everything that has already been loosened. The washing process is not complete until what has been exposed is fully carried away. Spiritually, God never reveals something simply to leave it there. He reveals it so He can remove it. He exposes it so He can heal it. He uncovers it so He can restore you.
One of the greatest mistakes you can make during your spiritual journey is holding onto something God has already loosened. The washing machine teaches a powerful lesson during the rinse cycle. Once the agitation has done its work, fresh water enters the machine and begins carrying away everything that no longer belongs. Imagine how ineffective the process would be if the dirt simply remained inside after it was loosened. The garment would never become clean. Likewise, there are times when God has already dealt with an issue in your life, but you continue carrying it long after He intended for it to leave. The rinse cycle is God’s invitation to release what He has already addressed. It is His invitation to stop carrying what He has already forgiven. It is His invitation to stop rehearsing what He has already redeemed.
Sometimes as a believer you will enter the wash cycle intentionally but you struggle with the rinse cycle. You may allow God to reveal wounds, fears, disappointments, and insecurities, yet continue carrying them as part of your identity. God never intended for your pain to become your permanent address. He never intended for your mistakes to become your identity. He never intended for your disappointment to become the lens through which you view your future. The rinse cycle reminds you that healing requires release. Freedom requires release. Restoration requires release. God can loosen what is attached, but you must be willing to let it go. The very thing you continue carrying may be the thing God is trying to remove.
The rinse cycle is often quieter than the agitation cycle. During agitation, everything is moving. During rinsing, there is a gentle flow of water that removes what no longer belongs. Spiritually, some of God’s deepest work happens in quiet moments. It happens during prayer. It happens while reading His Word. It happens during worship. It happens in stillness. These are the moments when His Spirit gently washes over your heart. He begins replacing fear with faith. He begins replacing anxiety with peace. He begins replacing bitterness with forgiveness. He begins replacing confusion with clarity. The rinse cycle teaches you that not every miracle happens through dramatic moments. Some miracles happen through steady surrender.
There are people who have forgiven others with their mouths but have never released them from their hearts. The rinse cycle challenges you to let go completely. Forgiveness is not pretending something never happened. Forgiveness is choosing not to remain chained to it. Every time you revisit old offenses, you are picking up something God has already tried to wash away. Every time you replay old hurts, you are carrying residue from a previous season. The Lord desires more for you than survival. He desires freedom. Freedom begins when you trust Him enough to release what He has already loosened. What you release into God’s hands no longer has power to control your future.
Here is the hardest part of a thing to release, it is not another person but the older version of yourself. You may still be carrying guilt from mistakes God already forgave. You may still be carrying shame from decisions God already redeemed. You may still be carrying regret from seasons God has already covered by grace. Yet Scripture reminds you that if anyone is in Christ, they are a new creation. The old has passed away. The new has come, 2 Corinthians 5:17. The rinse cycle reminds you that God is not asking you to drag yesterday into tomorrow. He is asking you to walk forward in freedom. The person God is creating cannot thrive while carrying the weight of who you used to be.
The rinse cycle also teaches you about trust, as you cannot control where the water flows once it enters the machine. Likewise, you cannot control every detail of how God heals and restores your life. Sometimes healing happens quickly. Sometimes it happens gradually. Sometimes restoration occurs in unexpected ways. Yet every drop of water serves a purpose. Every touch of God’s hand carries intention. Every moment of His presence brings healing. You do not have to understand every detail of the process to trust the One who designed it. God knows exactly how to remove every residue that remains attached to your heart.
Think about this beautiful aspects of the rinse cycle, it is that fresh water continually enters the machine. God’s mercy operates in the same way. Lamentations tells you that His mercies are new every morning. Every day you wake up with fresh grace available. Every day you wake up with fresh strength available. Every day you wake up with fresh hope available. Heaven never runs out of mercy. God’s supply never becomes depleted. No matter how difficult yesterday was, fresh grace is waiting for you today. No matter how heavy yesterday felt, fresh strength is available today. The rinse cycle reminds you that God is constantly refreshing those who belong to Him.
You may be in a season where God is asking you to release something you have carried for years. It may be a hurt, it may be a disappointment, it may be a relationship, it may be an expectation that never materialized; whatever it is, trust that God would never ask you to release something without providing something greater in return. His plans for your future are not dependent upon your past wounds. His purpose for your life is not limited by previous disappointments. The rinse cycle is not about loss. It is about preparation. God is making room for what comes next.
As you move through today’s devotional, remember that the rinse cycle is evidence of God’s kindness towards you. He does not merely expose your wounds; He heals them. He does not merely identify your burdens; He removes them. He does not merely reveal your pain; He restores your joy. Every drop of spiritual water flowing through your life is working toward your freedom. Trust the process. Trust His timing. Trust His heart. The same God who began the cleansing work is faithful to complete it.
Another lesson found in the rinse cycle is that the water keeps moving. It does not remain stagnant. Stagnant water eventually becomes unhealthy, but moving water remains fresh and life-giving. Spiritually, God never intended for you to become stuck in a place He called you to pass through. Some seasons are meant to teach you, but they were never meant to house you permanently. Some experiences were designed to strengthen you, but they were never intended to define you. The enemy would love for you to build a permanent residence around a temporary struggle. God, however, is constantly calling you forward. The rinse cycle reminds you that healing is movement. Growth is movement. Freedom is movement. God is inviting you to keep moving with Him rather than settling in yesterday’s pain.
The rinse cycle also reveals the faithfulness of God in the small things. Most people pay attention to the agitation because it is loud and noticeable. Few people pay attention to the rinse cycle because it is quieter. Yet some of God’s most beautiful work happens in places that are not visible to everyone else. It happens during a quiet prayer before work. It happens while reading a single Scripture that speaks directly to your heart. It happens during worship when tears begin to flow and burdens begin to lift. It happens during moments when no one else sees the transformation taking place. Never underestimate what God is doing in the hidden places. The quiet work of God often produces the greatest results. What appears small today may become the foundation of tomorrow’s testimony.
As the rinse cycle continues, the garment becomes lighter because the dirt is no longer attached to it. In the same way, you become lighter when you stop carrying things that God never intended for you to bear. There is a freedom that comes when you stop trying to control every outcome. There is a peace that comes when you stop replaying old conversations and painful memories. There is a joy that comes when you stop measuring your worth by your past mistakes. The weight you have been carrying may feel familiar, but familiar does not mean necessary. God desires to lighten your load so you can run your race with endurance. Freedom often begins when you stop picking up what God has already put down.
The rinse cycle is also a reminder that God does not merely remove things from your life; He replaces them with something better. He replaces fear with peace. He replaces shame with grace. He replaces confusion with wisdom. He replaces weakness with strength. He replaces despair with hope. The Kingdom of God is not simply about subtraction; it is about transformation. God never leaves an empty space where healing has occurred. He fills that place with His presence, His promises, and His power. Every area surrendered to Him becomes an opportunity for Him to reveal His goodness. The more room you make for God, the more of His life can flow through you.
Perhaps the greatest gift of the rinse cycle is the reminder that God finishes what He starts. He does not begin a cleansing process only to abandon it halfway through. Philippians 1:6 declares that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. Even when progress feels slow, God is still working. Even when healing feels gradual, God is still moving. Even when you cannot see visible evidence, heaven has not stopped working on your behalf. Trust the rinse cycle. Trust the flow of His grace. Trust the movement of His Spirit. The same God who loosened the stain is faithful to remove it completely, and the same God who brought you into the process will faithfully bring you through it.
Let’s Pray:
Father, today I thank You for being the God of restoration, renewal, and refreshing. Thank You for loving me enough not only to reveal what needs healing but also to provide the healing itself. Thank You for every area of my life that You are washing, restoring, and renewing. Help me recognize that Your desire is not simply to expose my wounds but to make me whole. Let me trust Your heart throughout every stage of the process. Lord, I surrender every burden that I have carried longer than You intended. I release every disappointment, every regret, every failure, and every painful memory into Your hands. Teach me how to let go of what You have already loosened. Help me stop carrying what You have already forgiven. Give me courage to release every weight that is hindering my spiritual growth and preventing me from fully embracing the future You have prepared. Father, wash my heart with the refreshing water of Your presence. Let Your peace flow into every anxious place. Let Your comfort flow into every wounded place. Let Your healing flow into every broken place. Saturate my thoughts with Your truth and fill my heart with Your promises. Remove every residue of fear, shame, bitterness, and insecurity. Make me clean from the inside out. Lord, help me forgive those who have hurt me. Teach me how to release every offense into Your hands. Remove every root of bitterness that seeks to grow within my heart. Help me choose freedom over resentment and healing over hurt. Give me the grace to extend mercy because You have extended mercy to me. Let forgiveness become a pathway to freedom rather than a burden I resist. Father, I ask You to heal the places no one else can see. Heal hidden wounds. Heal silent disappointments. Heal unanswered questions. Heal places where grief still lingers. Heal places where rejection left scars. Heal places where fear has taken root. Let Your healing power reach every corner of my heart until nothing remains untouched by Your love. Lord, teach me how to embrace the new thing You are doing in my life. Help me stop dwelling on former seasons and former disappointments. Give me eyes to see the opportunities You are placing before me. Increase my expectation for what You are preparing. Let hope rise within me again. Let excitement for my future replace fear of what lies ahead. Father, thank You for Your mercies that are new every morning. Thank You that I never exhaust Your grace. Thank You that Your love remains constant through every season. Thank You that Your faithfulness does not depend upon my perfection. Every day You provide fresh strength, fresh wisdom, and fresh hope. Help me receive every gift You freely offer. Lord, I declare that I am releasing what no longer belongs in my life. I choose freedom over bondage. I choose healing over hurt. I choose faith over fear. I choose Your future over my past. Thank You for rinsing away every residue that cannot accompany me into my next season. I trust You completely with the process, knowing that what You begin, You always finish. Father, help me release every expectation that is not aligned with Your will. If I have been holding on to plans, dreams, or outcomes that You are asking me to surrender, give me the courage to place them into Your hands. Teach me that surrender is not loss but trust. Help me believe that Your plans are higher, Your wisdom is greater, and Your timing is perfect. Let my confidence rest in You rather than in my own understanding. Lord, fill every empty place within me with Your presence. Where fear once lived, let faith arise. Where hurt once lingered, let healing flow. Where confusion once remained, let clarity come. I do not want to merely be free from old burdens; I want to be filled with Your Spirit. Saturate my life with Your peace, Your joy, Your wisdom, and Your strength. Let every area that has been cleansed become a dwelling place for Your Presence. Father, thank You that You are faithful to complete the work You started in me. Thank You that my future is secure in Your hands. Thank You that every cycle, every lesson, every tear, and every moment of growth is working together for my good. I choose to trust You completely. I choose to move forward in faith. I choose to embrace the refreshing You have promised. Thank You for making me lighter, stronger, freer, and more prepared for the purpose You have ordained for my life. In the Name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
Nugget ~ You cannot walk fully into your future while holding tightly to what God is trying to wash away. The rinse cycle is where freedom begins and refreshing flows. What God removes is just as important as what God gives. Release it, trust Him, and make room for the new thing He is doing in your life. The same God who loosened the stain is faithful to remove it completely and replace it with His peace, His purpose, and His Presence!
Blessings…
Love, Dr. Jean…
